In 2022-23 school year, there were 3,224 economically disadvantaged students taught in Washington County schools

Washington County schools enrolled 3,224 students who identified as economically disadvantaged in the state during the 2022-23 school year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Of the 5,509 students enrolled in Washington County schools, 58.5% were considered economically disadvantaged. This is an 11.5% increase over the previous school year.

Washington County enrolled the 97th highest number of students identified as economically disadvantaged among Texas counties.

Texas is found to be one of the least-educated states in the U.S. A study from WalletHub ranked Texas 41st out of 50 states in terms of the quality of the educational system and how successful students were.

More than 5.4 million students are enrolled in public schools across Texas. Nearly one million of them live in rural areas where options for local public schools are few and far between.
